The MDG Achievement Fund supported 12 joint programmes in this area with an allocation of US$63 million. These programmes supported the development of pro-poor growth policies that increase the participation and benefits of the poor in private sector development. Interventions sought to bolster economic sectors where the poor are strongly represented. These efforts contributed to achieving MDG 1 of eradicating extreme poverty by halving between 1990 and 2015 the proportion of people whose income is less than $1.00 a day.
